A standard format
AquaTelos designed and built this prefab pool for the Landmark Kids Club in Lagos.
At its core is a welded polypropylene monobloc forming the structural, leak-tight shell. It measures 3.84 × 1.98 × 1.35 metres internally, with a water depth of 1.25 metres.
The chosen format has been designed to remain freestanding without metal stiffeners. External polypropylene ribs project 500 mm from the vessel walls, providing the required support.
Metal stiffeners would add weight and require corrosion protection, undermining two key advantages of thermoplastics.
First applied at Jara Beach Resort and subsequently refined for Landmark Centre, this structural format provides a reliable starting point for project-specific configurations.
Simulating the pool before building it
Finite element analysis, or FEA, is a computer simulation used to predict how a structure will behave under load. In a pool, that load comes primarily from the water pressure.
The calculation considers more than the pool dimensions alone. It takes into account material properties, temperature, long-term creep, intended lifespan, the size and spacing of the reinforcement ribs, and how the welding techniques affect joint strength.
The simulation provides a visual map of how the forces are distributed throughout the pool structure. The design is examined before fabrication, and the structure is built accordingly.
Standard structure, individual configuration
The dimensions, reinforcement principle and technical room beneath the stairs remained consistent with the Jara pool. Three features were altered:
– Plain turquoise liner was selected instead of marble blue.
- Bench runs across one short side only, leaving more open space.
- Polypropylene panels replaced wood-PVC cladding and were wrapped with printed vinyl carrying the colourful Kids Club graphics.
The same platform could accommodate a counter-current system for swim training. It could also combine a heat pump with a certified automatic rolling cover.
The cover would provide an additional safety barrier and keep debris out, reducing the need for cleaning. It would also limit evaporation and heat loss, lowering water consumption and improving heating efficiency.
From Apapa to Victoria Island in one go
The polypropylene monobloc was fabricated and thermowelded at our premises in Apapa. It comprises the pool vessel with integrated bench seating, external reinforcement ribs, technical room and external access staircase.
A single conventional HIAB crane truck handled the entire journey: loading the prefabricated structure at our workshop, transporting it across Lagos to Landmark Centre on Victoria Island, and unloading and positioning it.
Site connections, polypropylene cladding, the stainless-steel pool ladder and final detailing were completed after installation.
Commissioned in early March 2026
After the simulation, fabrication and journey across Lagos, the pool entered daily operation at Landmark Kids Club.
The photograph shows exactly what the pool was built for: kids having a ball.
